Welcome

Special Needs

Cordelia's Photography has a new project underway! If you are the guardian/owner of a rescue dog, please click here for more information. If you have a dog with special needs and would like their story told, please click on the link above.

This page is dedicated to the dogs and pups coming into Cordelia's Canine Rescue who need special care in the form of extra medical care (surgeries etc), special diets/care (emaciated), orphaned newborn/very young puppies who need bottle feeding  and/or abuse (injuries and neglect) caused by humans.

These dogs and pups are often fighting against the odds to survive and/or have a struggle ahead of them to regain their health and trust.

Dogs and pups, being the incredible animals they are, are enormously forgiving of us humans and their strength of spirit is inspiring. Often, all they need is a helping hand to give them back the confidence they have lost in us, some good cuddles and usually, lots of good food.

If you would like to help....... Prayers are the greatest way to start (Light a Candle, Chant a Mantra, it's up to you. They need all the help they can get!)

If you would like to sponsor a dog or pup on this page, please see the Sponsor a Dog Page for how you can do this.

Anyone is welcome to come and meet any of the dogs in care. Just like visiting someone in hospital, these guys usually enjoy having visitors come and spend time with them too.

The costs of additional surgeries and medications are never recovered through the Adoption Fee and your help is always most appreciated.

We welcome you to watch the Cordelia's Canine Rescue Movie that shows why we do what we do.

"FLEMING"

Belgian Shepherd

4yrs old.

This gorgeous chap was abadoned in the pound with (we suspect) his dad. Sadly, Papa B as he was known, was diagnosed with prostate cancer shortly after coming into care and was humanely euthanased.

Fleming came into care with a limp. After several weeks without improvement and vet assessment, it is strongly suspected that he has torn his cruciate ligament. To read more about this condition and repair, please have a look at the folling link:

Cruciate Ligament Rupture

We need to have Fleming's knee x-rayed to have a difinitive diagnosis and then he will require surgery to have it repaired.

We are looking for sponsorship for Fleming so that he is able to have this surgery and be on his way to recovery and a eventually, a great home.

He is currently in foster care and has proven himself to be a well behaved, well mannered and lovely natured boy. He gets along well with other dogs and loves everyone he meets. He is a beautiful boy who deserves a chance to live a long, happy and healthy, pain free life.

If you would like to sponsor Fleming please email Jacqueline or Merryn

Update: 9th Feb. 2008.

Unfortunately, the surgery required to repair Fleming's leg was going to be extremely expensive, have a very long recovery period and was not going to guarantee him a pain free life.

After deliberating with Kym, his foster carer and our vet, it was decided that amputating his leg was the least cruel and best option for him to live a long and pain free life.

This surgery was performed in January and he has recovered very well.

Thank you to those generous people who donated to help this surgery occur. Fleming has a new lease on life and has settled in to running on 3 cylinders!

3 days post-surgery. He is very bruised and quite sore.

Thankfully, dogs do recover from amputation MUCH faster than people do. They adapt and move on to more important things... like ball chasing and engaging Kym's older dog to play with him!

New pics of a much happier Fleming very soon.
