Mums with Bubs
Sadly, it is common for some people to suddenly decide to dump their dogs in the pound or surrender them to rescue when they are heavily pregnant. They are often young bitches around 12mths old (first season) who are lovely dogs but were just not desexed.
Often, due to the age of mum (immaturity), the possibility of infection whilst impounded, fear, stress, malnourished and generally neglected, some pups do not survive until 8wks old. Sadly, Death is also a reality of Rescue.
Thankfully, some dogs are great with their pups and all goes well.
This page is to allow you to follow very late stage pregnancy, Birth (that includes death), and the progress of Pups in care with their mums.
This page, I hope, also helps people to understand why Rescues fully support and encourage people to desex their pets. Helping to raise a litter of pups is not easy, cheap or always a joyful event.
We invite you to watch the Cordelia's Canine Rescue Movie that shows why we do what we do.
"VALENTINE"
Staffy X

Valentine was surrendered into care by her owner who, very sadly couldn't care for her anymore.
She has been a very loved girl and is very smoochy and snuggly.
Valentine whelped her litter of 13 on the 13th February, 2008... (hence the name... not particularly original but it suits her all the same!)
Sadly, 3 of the pups were born dead so we have 5 males and 5 females surviving.
Mum and bubs are doing well.
