Surrendered into care: 4/7/06
I have tried writing this so many times since yesterday and I have to admit that I am finding it very difficult to get my thoughts out for these 2 poor girls.
The fact is.... I am so deeply horrified by the state they came to us in.... not just because of their condition, but that their owners stood by and watched... knowingly watched these girls slowly STARVING TO DEATH!
They HAD food for them and CHOSE not to feed!!
Could I be more appalled?? Sadly... yes.
Giselle (Staffy girl) is pregnant.
PLEASE NOTE: SOME PEOPLE MAY FIND THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS VERY DISTRESSING. PLEASE ENSURE YOUNG CHILDREN ONLY VIEW THESE PHOTOS UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION TO EXPLAIN THAT THE GIRLS ARE NOW SAFE AND GETTING THE CARE THEY REQUIRE TO HEAL.
Yesterday... these girls were surrendered to a neighbourly Guardian Angel named Dave, who then brought them to us in the hope that they will recover from such gross neglect.
Dave... We thank you sincerely for your compassion and love for 2 dogs who needed help.
The girls will be weighed shortly and updates will be on a weekly basis.
GISELLE
Purebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier
She is quite weak but is eating and tolerating small amounts 6 times per day.
  
Note her sunken skull... this is due to there no longer being any muscle mass on her body at all.
Giselle is approx 4-5wks pregnant but due to her malnourishment, we are unable to desex her now. She wouldn't survive the surgery in this state.
CLAUDIA
Kelpie x (?) Half the height of a Kelpie though.
Like Giselle, Claudia is quite weak but is eating well and is now wagging her tail in greeting.
 
UPDATE: 12/7/06
Well, the girls have been here for 8 days now and WOW! What a difference!!
Giselle had a rocky start when she started to refuse food when it was given... instead, she was hoarding it in fear of not being fed again.
Thankfully, she has stopped that and is now eating VERY well. She is slowly starting to show her true personality and is a lovely, gentle natured girl who is VERY affectionate.
As seen below, she has put on a significant amount of weight in the last 8 days.
Claudia is going from strength to strength! She LOVES her food and is now showing herself to be a friendly, happy and playful young Lass!
She really enjoys her short walks in the scrub around here. Both girls are having only 2 x 5 minute walks per day (with lots of snuggles and play therapy throughout the day) as too much exercise will compromise their weight gain.
The girls are also having short training session during the day. They now sit nicely on command!
UPDATE: 27/7/06
Well, what a difference 23 days make!!
Giselle has now been desexed. This was decided as the safest course of action for her health and she has improved dramatically!
She doesn't particularly enjoy having her photo taken but she is now a smiley, very happy little girl!
She now has a nicely rounded rump as any spunky Staffy should have!
Claudia has also improved dramatically and has proven herself to be an adorably affectionate girl who just loves everyone she comes into contact with!
She's going to have to go on a diet if she stays here much longer! haha
Unlike Giselle... Claudia LOVES having her photo taken and totally panders to the camera!!

Giselle is going to have to start on weight watchers pretty soon! haha
She is just adorable and chunky as every Staffy should be. She is available for adoption and can been viewed on the Medium-large breeds Adoption Page.

and still proving that I can't make her smile for the camera...
She really is a very happy girl! I promise!! Haha!

Giselle and Claudia have now been adopted and are exceedingly happy in their respective families where they will be loved and spoilt forever more!
